About Spectrum

Spectrum is a repository of resources focusing on contemporary issues, trends and ideas relating to the developments of religion in society, especially the dynamics of Islam in the modern world.  Through this platform, Muis aims to share with the local and international audiences, its ongoing efforts to understand contemporary discourses on Islam and Muslim societies.

Spectrum will also showcase selected papers, articles, books, scholars and relevant institutions which are at the forefront of these discourses.  This is achieved through the publishing of papers and documentation of findings from various engagement platforms like conferences, seminars, workshops and roundtable discussions organised by Muis in collaboration with other partners.

The areas of interest covered by Spectrum are guided by the Muis Research Agenda which is designed to support Muis in its effort to develop a progressive and religiously resilient Muslim community with a strong Singaporean Muslim Identity and a global outlook.

The Research Agenda aims to provide Muis with the internal capacity and capability to have a substantive understanding of :

  • the global forces shaping contemporary and future discourses,
  • the intricacies of the local socio-religio context, and
  • the state of the Singaporean Muslims, particularly with respect to the religious life.

The research areas under the Muis Research Agenda are as follows:

  • Globalisation, modernisation and religious resurgence
  • Positing the positive role of religion in advanced industrial societies
  • Emerging Muslim community profile and implications for Muis and its associated bodies
